The British led education movement in India and the use of English language brought a different kind of awareness and aesthetic sensibility to urban Indians. It was the turning point in the administrative history of Chamba when Punjab Government appointed a British officer Major Blair Reid as Superintendent, who in a very short time effected important reforms in the Chamba State. Educational activities were started during the name of Raja Gopal Singh, who was only a man of letters but ran the state efficiently.
